GrokWebsite.com is a web directory. It sorts websites into categories so you can browse from a broad subject down to a specific one and find sites worth visiting. There are no detail pages and no accounts: every category page is a plain list of links with a short description of each site.

How it is organized

The directory has two levels. There are 15 top-level categories, and under them 489 subcategories that currently list at least one site, with 23,687 sites in total. A site can appear in more than one category, up to two. Each category page shows 50 sites per page and links to related categories. You can also use the search box at the top of every page, or open all categories on one page.

Where the categories and sites come from

The categories and the sites placed in them are compiled from public sources and sorted by us into two levels. Within a category we favor sites that are widely used, so the directory leans toward sites that still exist and are visited.

Each homepage is then fetched once by our crawler, GrokWebsiteBot, which follows the site's robots.txt. The title and description shown in the directory are read from the site's own page. A site is left out when it does not load, is parked or for sale, is not written in English, asks search engines not to index it, or belongs to a category we do not list (for example gambling, drugs, firearms, tobacco and adult content).

Weekly synchronization

The directory is synchronized once a week. Between synchronizations a listing can be out of date: a site may change its name, move, or disappear. If you notice a problem, see Report a problem.

You can recommend a site by email. The details are on the Suggest a Site page. A listing is a link to a site, not an endorsement of it.
